Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
August 5, 2026 - August 6, 2026
Monastiri 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is a village covered in vegetation, with paved streets and stone houses that has been classified, along with the neighbouring villages, as a traditional settlement. Its inhabitants are now few in winter, but in summer they increase to about 100 and the village becomes more of a holiday resort. The few inhabitants of the village, now retired, have as their sole occupation the cultivation of their garden and their vineyards for the production of tsipouro and wine.
Many springs are located at the boundaries of the village, such as Pigadi, Draziou, to the north the spring of Yogou next to the chapel of the Nativity of the Virgin Mary and the spring of Platonos to the east. From the boundaries of the settlement begins the Tsoubani forest and reaches up to the peak of Kleftis, covering an area of 150,000 acres and consisting of black walnut and fir trees. The parish church of Agios Athanasios (1927) is a one-aisled basilica with a double roof and an additional peristyle gallery. There are several small churches in the area, such as Agios Theodoros, Agios Taxiarches, Prophet Elias, Genesis of the Virgin Mary and Agios Charalambos.
On August 5 and 6, the day of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, a festival with traditional dances is held in the village square. It is preceded by the custom of the Auction of the Cross, whose claim depends on the amount of oil offered by each person. During the festival the traditional dances of Epirus are danced, such as tsamiko, sirtos, Pogonisios, Zagorisios, papadia, Beratis, Frascia, Bolonasaena kleftika and favourite folk songs of foreign countries. The village is home to the Brotherhood of Monastiriotes, which takes care of the preservation of customs and tradition, the organization of events and the financial support of various projects.

Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
August 6, 2026 - August 7, 2026
Elefthero 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is located in a beautiful location with running water and many gardens, where vegetables, giant potatoes and potatoes are grown. The inhabitants, apart from farming, were also very good at masonry, and there were many who travelled to distant places (Romania, America, etc.) in search of work. Today, the few inhabitants are engaged in masonry and forestry work on the verdant slopes of Smolika and Kleftis.
The main church of St. Nicholas was rebuilt on the foundations of the older church, destroyed by the German army, built in 1859, and was covered with remarkable frescoes. The churches of Panagia and Agios Minas are newer. The chapel of Agios Dimitrios was built in 1858, according to an inscription above its entrance, and inside there are some old icons, such as that of the saint to whom the church is dedicated, dating from 1792. Other chapels are those of Prophet Elijah, St. Anargyroi, St. George, the Transfiguration of the Saviour and St. Athanasius.
The village was burnt down during the Second World War. However, a few old houses can be seen, which are typical of the continental architecture, which was adapted to rural and livestock farming households. Of the four mills that the village once had, only one is now in operation.
Elefthero is the only village in the Aoos valley whose inhabitants do not speak the Vlach dialect. It is said that its present inhabitants come from a settlement that bore the old name of the present village 'Grisbani' and which was located in the area of the village of Plakoti in Thesprotia. The inhabitants settled here in the 16th century at the urging of a powerful Turkalan, in order to get rid of the frequent landslides that occurred in their old village.
The village festival is held on August 6 & 7, the Transfiguration of the Saviour, with feasting, dancing and singing. Many local folk songs are heard (of foreignness, life, kleftika, etc.). Interesting are the customs of Agios Dimitrios, the New Year's Eve of Katharodecetera, (Kothoria) and Epiphany (of the godfather). The village has a picturesque little café in the square.

Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
Traditional Festival-Metamorfosi Sotiros (Transfiguration of Christ)
August 6, 2026
Kleidonia 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
In the past, in the place where the village is built today, there were the storage areas and the makeshift accommodation structures (huts) during the agricultural work of the residents of Ano Klidonia. For this reason, on old maps the settlement is referred to as Kalyvia. The inhabitants of the village are mainly engaged in agriculture and secondarily in animal husbandry, while there are also some trout farms.
In the upper part of the village, on the path leading to Ano Klidonia, there is the church of the Transfiguration of the Saviour, which used to be the monastery's church. According to tradition, it was founded by Constantine Pogonatos in the 7th century AD, while according to written evidence it dates back to the mid-15th century.
Also on the north side of the settlement, where a spring with sulphurous waters gushes forth, it seems that during the Roman and Byzantine era, thermal baths were in operation. On the day of the Saviour (6 August), the Cultural Association and the Brotherhood of Kleydonia organise a traditional festival in the centre of the village.
In Klidonia there is an infrastructure for sleeping and eating as well as two petrol stations. Near the village, one can find the old stone bridge from where a beautiful path through the magnificent gorge of Voidomatis starts. Just before the entrance of the gorge there are nice taverns.

Traditional Festival in Kallithea Village
Traditional Festival in Kallithea Village
August 7, 2026
Kallithea 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
In the past, the village was called Goritsa and is mentioned in the chronicle of the historian Aravantinos in 1866. The village was set on fire by the Nazis during the occupation in 1943, and they bombarded it with their cannons the following year.
The inhabitants are engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry. With the hard work of its 200 inhabitants, the wider region of the prefecture is supplied with the famous aromatic peaches and melons. In the summer and early autumn, i.e., during the production period, delicious fresh fruit is sold in abundance in makeshift kiosks along the main road. At the sites of Aghios Athanasios and Aghios Konstantinos, remarkable archaeological finds dating from the 11th to the 8th centuries BC have been found, proving that the area was inhabited a very long time ago.
However, it is believed that the present village emerged from the contraction of four smaller peripheral settlements that do not exist today (Agios Konstantinos, Agios Georgios, Panagia, and Amari).
The old stone-built church of Saints Constantine and Helen is important, located just beyond the village, next to the monastery of Timios Stavros, which is under construction. The central square is dominated by the church of Agios Georgios, and north of the village is the cemetery church of Panagia.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 14, 2026 - August 15, 2026
Amarantos 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is surrounded by rich forests of oak, beech and black pine and the tributary of Sarandaporos Ziasikas flows in its foothills. From the peak of Kamenik the visitor has an endless view of the other peaks of the Gramos, the neighbouring Smolika, the distant Tymfi and the mountains of Albania.
The area is considered to have been an important hub in antiquity and during the Roman Empire and had a military station, which operated until the arrival of the Ottomans in the 15th century. The village also had flourishing manufacturing industries (cheese dairies, textile mills, water mills, distilleries, saws). In the surrounding area and especially on Kamenk Peak, there were fierce battles during the Civil War, remnants of which can still be seen today.
Special sights of the village are the church of St. George, 1889, with an elaborate wooden carved temple of Tornovite taliadors and hagiographies by hagiographers from Chioniad, as well as the chapels of St. Trinity, St. Nicholas, St. Panteleimon and St. John.
Apart from the above, it is also worth visiting the stone school (1903), the single-arched stone bridge of the mill (1862), the stone fountains and the old water mill under the village and the old building of the high school (Scholarchion), which was built in 1870 and now serves as a community guesthouse.

Agia Paraskevi, Konitsa 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
Although in 1953 it was renamed Agia Paraskevi, the locals prefer the old name Kerasovo. It is a beautiful village with picturesque houses, many streams, extensive coniferous and beech forests and alpine meadows in Smolika. Kerasovo was at the centre of the war during the early days of the Italian invasion. Most of its inhabitants used to be engaged in masonry and transport (kyratzides - conductors). Kerasovite stone-masons worked in various parts of Greece and outside of it. Today, the inhabitants of the village are engaged in logging and animal husbandry. Cattle, goats and sheep are reared on the slopes of Smolika and Tabouriou. Interesting are the many churches of the village, such as the central church of the Assumption of Theotokos (1812), St. Nicholas (1850), St. Paraskevi (1850), St. Dimitrios (1926), St. Athanasios, St. Barbara, Pr. Elias, St. Trinity, etc. The old mills and fountains of the village, as well as the building of the old primary school are worthy of attention. In the centre of the village there is a large building that belongs to the Brotherhood of Agia Paraskevi. In general, the urban form of the village is monocentric, with the centre in the middle, which includes the middle village, the two uneven squares and the 12 mahalades, which face various powerful factories (soybeans), such as Tsoubanai, Papagiannai, Vailades, etc. The musical tradition of the village is unique. Even today, famous musicians (Filippideoi and Betzaioi) entertain people at the traditional festivals of the wider area. In recent years, in August, a Polyphonic Song Festival is organized under the supervision of Xanthoula Dakovanou, professor of music therapy at the Denis Diderot-Paris University7, and the orchestra of Nikos Filippidis. Also characteristic is the custom of making a "bontza" (a clay pan for baking bread or pies) by women during the summer months. In Kerasovo there is a suitable infrastructure for overnight stays but also for enjoying good food (roasted lambs and kokoretsi) in the traditional taverns of the village. From Kerasovo starts the mountaineering trail to Drakolimni and the big peak of Smolika.at 2637m, but also other smaller trails in the forests around the village.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Plagia 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
All its inhabitants come from the neighbouring village of Zerma, which was abandoned due to landslides. The few inhabitants of the village are engaged in animal husbandry. Several inhabitants move their herds to warmer places in winter.
At a distance of 3 km from the village, in a green forest of gavros and oaks, is the deserted village of Zermas, home of the chieftain Giannoulis Zermas (1854). Zerma was a small centre of hagiography. The surviving hagiography inscription in the Monastery of Kamenas, near Delvino in Albania, is characteristic, where the painter Michael from Zerma signs the church's hagiography in 1662: 'δηα χυρός του αμαρτολου Миχάλις ζωγράφος εκ komiς Ζέρμας'. Also in Zerma, as in the other Masto villages, many men specialized in building. Teams of masons from Zerma worked in Mount Athos, Agrinio, Amfilochia, Thesprotia, Thessaly and Albania (Delvino, Argyrokastro).
The visitor can admire the church of Agios Dimitrios of 1864 and the central fountain of 1750. In a short distance from the village, there is the church of Zermas and the bridge of Zermas. In summer, events are held in the large square of the village, in the small theatre. The annual feast takes place on August 15th, while festivities are also held on October 26th of Agios Dimitrios.

Fourka, Konitsa 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
In the past, the inhabitants lived there all year round and did not leave it during the winter months, as is the case in almost all other villages built higher than 1100 metres above sea level. The village is surrounded by rich forests of oak, beech, black pine and fir, while significant areas are occupied by grassland. For this reason, livestock farming and logging are the main activities of the inhabitants.
Fourka is a historic place, where on the hill of Prophet Elias, in the north, there were deadly battles in 1940 during the Greek-Italian war. It was here that Colonel Konstantinos Davakis was wounded and Lieutenant Alexandros Diakos breathed his last.
The history of the village dates back to before the 16th century. The village was formed by the union of four settlements. At that time it had 3,000 inhabitants and due to its mountainous location, the taxes to the Ottoman administration were extremely low. Economic and social reasons as well as the increase in raids from present-day Albania (Kolonia) contributed to the dispersion of the Fourkians from the 17th to the 19th century. The wars in the period 1940-1949 and the later urbanisation reduced the population of Fourka considerably.
Today there are 25 permanent residents living in Fourka who are engaged in animal husbandry and logging. In the summer, however, the village comes alive with people from all over the world visiting their hometown. During the summer season, the population increases to 300 people due to the arrival of travelling farmers and residents living in other towns.
The village churches of Agios Nikolaos, Agios Georgios, Agios Athanasios and Pr. Important are the customs of the village, such as: 't' Aitryfonas', 't' Panaias t' Miggles' and 't' Ainikola'.
From Tabouri peak and from the hill of Profitis Elias, which can be reached from the village by following a forest road or path, you can admire nature in all its splendour. Wherever you turn your eyes, you will see forests, alpine meadows, ridges and gullies all around Smolika and Gramos. Every year, on the day of its feast day (20 July), Prophet Elias is officially commemorated by the state for the contribution of the Pindos woman in the Greek-Italian war of 1940-41. From Fourka, a road leads to Samarina (about 12 km) and the neighbouring region of Grevena, while from the Kladormi Monastery, which is lower than the village, one can reach the Konitsa-Kozani highway.
In the village there is a guesthouse for overnight stay, a cafeteria and a grill. Fourka, like most Vlach villages, celebrates the Feast of Fifteen August.

Distrato 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
In the lower part of the village, graves of Byzantine and Roman or earlier times were found. It is assumed that there was an ancient settlement at the site of the village. The main occupations that the inhabitants were engaged in from the past were logging, karmanas (production of pottery), charcoal making, animal husbandry and pottery. The inhabitants of Distratos are famous for their skill in logging. With simple means and before the discovery of oil and electricity, they built water mills in suitable places and exploited the power of water to produce useful timber. The potters made pottery by heating the torch in a special way, which was formerly used as a healing agent for animal wounds and so on. In Distrato there is a Primary School, a Tapestry School, a community library, a water mill, a water mill, mandanias and a snow removal station.
The central church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is the jewel of the village and the centre of the three-day festival on 15 August. It is of the basilica type and was built in 1909 by the master builder Alexis Marcheki from Pyrsogianni. The church is adorned with an elaborate iconostasis and icons of Chioniadian painters, painted on canvas.
The chapel of Prophet Elias is located to the north of Distratos on a hilltop, in a prominent position. On the north side of the church is the date 1814, although according to testimonies the church existed before that. The chapel is open every year on 20 July, when a festival with traditional music and dancing takes place.
Distrato has a suitable infrastructure for sleeping with remarkable guesthouses and rooms to let, and eating with several taverns and cafes. There are also woodcarving workshops, waxworks and trout farms.

Plikati 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Around Plekati you will find one of the most beautiful remaining mountainous rural landscapes of our country, which unfortunately year after year, as the cultivation of small fields is abandoned, is replaced by the surrounding forests that gradually expand towards the village. The small fields with annual crops and opportunistic trees, the plant fences and oaks at the edges of the fields, the existence of numerous paths connecting the fields and the streams that flow between the fields, create an image that seems to come from the past. The village still retains several houses of traditional architecture.
Plekati has been home to many craftsmen, who travelled far from their homeland to work. Thus, in the past centuries we met Plekati craftsmen in Athens, in Messolonghi and Astakos, in Thesprotia, in Kavala, in regions of Albania (Delvino, Korica), in France, in Asia Minor (Prusa) and in Russia (Irkutsk, Vladivostok). Many Plekadians emigrated permanently to other places from time to time, such as Drosopigi (Belkameni) and Flamburo (Negovani) in Florina, as well as Ampelon (Kazaklar) in Thessaly.
The church of Agios Athanasios (17th century) is impressive, with an iconostasis and ceiling of unique artistic value. The church houses the remaining parts of the temple of the old church of Panagia Plekaditissa (1775), which was thoroughly renovated after the war. On 16 February, the village celebrates the discovery of the miraculous icon of the "Panagia of Plekaditissa". The main festival takes place on August 14 & 15.
Today Plekati is a lively village with agricultural and livestock activities. In the summers several cattle breeders lease the alpine meadows and reap the benefits of the plateaus of the Gramos. Plekati is the starting point for mountaineering routes to the major peaks of the Gramos {Tsouka al Petsiou (2520m), Periphano or Skirtsi (2444m) ka} and from here many other trails start or end on the forested slopes of the Gramos. The visitor can also see the Memorial of the Fallen 46-49. In the village there is a guesthouse and a café that offers fine snacks and tsipouro.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Λαγκάδα, Lagkada 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
The village, formerly called Blistiani, is built at an altitude of 900 m, on the western slopes of a large valley formed to the north of the mountains Tabouri (alt. 1876 m) and Gyftissa (alt. 1750 m).
Lagada is home to famous stone masons. Some of the famous mansions of the town of Siatista, for example, bear inscriptions with the names of masters and masters from this small village: "If you ask, Lords, which master built it, Nakos the name from the country of Blistiani, Villaetti Konitsa, 1740". Also, an inscription preserved in the village of Gorgogiri Trikala informs us that Blizdianite masons built the village church in 1857. In the mid-19th century a large part of the village's inhabitants, consisting mainly of families of masons, settled permanently in the village of Drakotrypa in Thessaly.
Today, only a few stone houses remain to remind of the old times. The few inhabitants of the village are mostly engaged in animal husbandry, logging and wood processing - there are two sawmills in the village - and some continue to practice the profession of a builder. In the village, the church of Panagia and the old school stand out, as well as the chapel of Agia Paraskevi, with excellent examples of frescoes by Chioniadian painters. Beautiful locations around the village are the springs Glykoneri and Elatia and the plateau "livadia" located east of the village at an altitude of 1412 meters.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Pyrsogianni 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Walking along the picturesque cobbled streets of the village you will admire the stately houses, the ornate front doors and the stone fountains. Most of the houses, according to the inscriptions on the walls, started to be built around 1750. Many of them are two or three storeys high and around them there are small stone squares and cobbled steps and alleys. Also many houses have interesting stone carvings on their walls.
Climb up to the square of Kokka Karya and from there to the century-old plane tree, next to the welcoming guesthouse and higher up to the church of Agios Georgios on a route that will fascinate you. Agios Georgios (1904) is built on the site of an older church (1712). It will impress you with its technique and volume and its double bell tower. Its wood-carved iconostasis is the work of the Tournovite - from the neighbouring village of Gorgopotamos - talian Vassilis Skalisti (1926) and the painted decoration is by the Serbian iconographer Miltiadis Nikolic. Agios Nikolaos (1772), a three-aisled basilica with a turreted bell tower and peristyle loggia, is the oldest church in the village. The churches of Agios Athanasios (1864), Agios Minas (1853), Panagia (1867) and Analipsius are also noteworthy.
Pyrsogianni used to be inhabited by 360 families and 1,800 people. Most of the men were engaged in masonry. It is the home of the famous stone masons and craftsmen who, during the last 4 centuries and until 1950, dispersed, organized in bouloukia, to nearby and distant destinations (Balkans, America, Persia, Sudan, etc.) and created works of rare beauty and technical excellence. Pyrsoyanites and Bourbian craftsmen with a boulukki of eighty craftsmen and the first master craftsman, the Pyrsoyanite Zioga Frodzo, built the bridge of Konitsa in 1871. Today about 200 inhabitants live in the village permanently, and many more in the summer. The main occupation of the inhabitants today is cattle breeding, logging and the provision of services, while a few continue the traditional profession of stone craftsman.
The village's annual festival takes place on August 15th, first on the mountain, in the shiadia and threshing floors of Panagia until noon and then in the evening in the village square with beautiful traditional songs and local musicians.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Vourmpiani 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Apart from their love for the arts, they also excelled in writing. In 1875, the first nucleus of the Filelekpaediktiki Adelheidia was founded in Vourbiani, a school that was to become a model school for the entire province of Konitsa.
Today the visitor should see the stone-built two-storey historic School of Vourbiani, the spiritual beacon of the region since the middle of the 19th century, which in more recent years and until 1986 functioned as a primary school, secondary school and boarding school, the Holy Church of Panagia with the wooden temple of the 16th century (built by Gorgopotamites woodcarvers), but also the other churches of the village.
A stop at the central square with the plane tree is essential, which is a meeting point for the Vourbianites and visitors, as here are the two traditional cafes and the guesthouse of the village.
Events are held on 20 July, the Feast of the Prophet Elijah, on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, while on 24 October the "Tsipouro Festival" is organised.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026 - August 17, 2026
Drosopigi 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Important works of Kantsion masters in the surrounding area are the arched stone bridge at Sarantaporo, on the road to the village, immediately after the junction with the national road, which has been standing there since 1747, as well as the Kladormi Monastery, located on the border with the neighbouring village of Fourka.
Just as famous as the masons were the village's barrel makers who, like them, travelled to all parts of Greece, offering their services. According to tradition, Kantsiko existed in its present location before 1600. During the period of Ottoman rule, it experienced great growth and was given special administrative and ecclesiastical privileges. Most of the houses in the village were built at that time, as the inscribed plaques on the facades of the houses show.
During the Greek-Italian war and the civil war, the area was the centre of deadly battles. A well-preserved and hospitable village, it has great examples of folk architecture and a special style. In the village, the large paved square stands out, built on two levels with the plane tree, planted in 1886 and the beautiful stone fountain.
Here is also the parish church of Agia Paraskevi, which was built by the village masons in 1930 and impresses with its dimensions and its double bell tower. The bust of the village benefactor Yannis Lytras is located in the church's precinct.
It is worth visiting the chapel of Agios Athanasios (1906), Agios Nikolaos (1916), Agios Panteleimon (1927), the church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary (1902), where there are works by the Chioniadite painter Anastasios Mich. Zografou, the stone-built school (1927) and the community shop (1903), where the ground floor houses the elegant Ameliaco coffee shop. At the entrance of the village there is a tavern with fine dishes and above it the traditional coffee shop.
In the village, in winter, there are only a few inhabitants, who are engaged in construction, gardening and domestic livestock breeding, while in summer they reach four hundred. In the first 10 days of June the village organises a 'Mushroom Festival'. The village festival takes place on August 15th and is one of the most famous in the area with a party that lasts until the morning. The festival lasts for a total of three days and during the same period there are also sporting events in which the young people of the village take the lead.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Gannadio 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
The inhabitants of the village used to be among the richest in the area and were engaged in trade and banking transactions, which is evident when one admires the rich mansions that one sees. Several men of the village were also engaged in the art of masonry. Today the inhabitants of Ganadi during the winter months rarely exceed 15 and their income comes from the cultivation of small areas of vegetables and vineyards and from the production of tsipouro, while in summer they reach 200 people. The first settlement in the area of Gani dates back to the 17th century, in the 'meadow' location, while the foundation of the settlement in its present location dates back to 1818. In the central square of the village is the church of the Pammakariston Taxiarches, built in the style of the three-aisled basilica, in 1856, by the master builder Harisiadis with grey-black chipped stone of the region. There are also scattered chapels in the village. Within the village there are 4 arched small stone bridges, which date back to around 1890. The stone fountain "Natsaioi" supplies the village with drinking water. The stone-built houses are distinguished by their black stone, their paved roofs, their fortress-like character and the few openings to the public spaces. At the edge of the beautiful central square of the village with the large plane tree, there is the three-storey house of Lazaros Xinos (1860) with the characteristic tower (koulia) on one side to ensure defence from frequent robber raids. Further on, the house of Giusios (1909) is impressive with its perfectly carved stones and the arched bridge at the entrance, which is preserved in very good condition. The contribution of the benefactor Spyros Xinos (1820-1865), who left his fortune to the village, is memorable. At the expense of his estate, the "Spyridonian School" was founded at the entrance of the village, which functioned continuously as a primary school and school until 1928. It even had 80 students from all over the region. The bequest also made an important contribution to the operation of the nursery and boarding school. A special experience in Ganadio is the Fifteenth of August festival in the square, organised by the brotherhood of Ganadians with a feast, local instrumentalists and traditional dances until the early hours of the morning. In the adjacent valley of Vourkopotamos, on land belonging to Ganadio, there are two ruined watermills and two small arched stone bridges, which you can reach from the road leading to Pournia and Agia Paraskevi.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Pournia 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
Walking through the alleys of the village one will find beautiful front doors, well-built buildings and rich mansions, which refers to the wealth that flowed into the village from the foreigners.
The central church of the Pammegiston Taxiarches, Archangels Michael and Gabriel, patrons of the village, is a remarkable religious monument. The present church, of the basilica type, is built on the site of the old one. But notable public buildings of the village are the school, and the Ameliko, a large building - an old guesthouse to the east of the main church. Attractions include the single-arched bridge of Selios (1871) and the Black Stone Bridge. It is said that in the past there were three settlements: of Staritsa, Selos, and Anargyra. The village received its old name from the first settlement, because of the wheat fields that spread around it. In 1928 it was renamed Pournia, which means "sow's nest".
According to tradition, Pournia is the birthplace of another village, called 'Trapia', which was built nearby, on a site that still bears that name. Trapia was one of the largest villages of that period, with 300 families and 1 200 inhabitants, who were engaged in animal husbandry and masonry. However, the plague (14th-16th century) forced them to relocate and the village became deserted. Today the inhabitants of Pournia are retired cattle breeders and loggers in the forestry cooperative. In the central square of the village on August 15th a festival is held with a large number of people participating. The Association of Pournionites is based in Athens.
From the village forest roads and paths lead you to beautiful locations. From the position "Daliopolis", located near Klefti, where during the civil war there were deadly battles, you can today enjoy the panoramic view of the ridges and slopes of the surrounding mountains: Trapezitsa, Tymfi, Gramos and Smolika. In Pournia there is a guesthouse for overnight stay, a tavern and a café.

Gorgopotamos 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Tournovo is known for the famous Tournovites woodcarvers and carpenters who worked and created various works in the surrounding areas and even further afield... As in the case of the Chioniades with the painters, the fact that most of the men of the village specialized in this art is a remarkable phenomenon.
It is worth visiting and admiring the exquisite art of the temple of the church of Panagia (1914), the work of Vassilis Skalisti, as well as the church of Agios Nikolaos (19th century), at the entrance of the village. Today, few of the old mansion houses remain, but they still preserve several ornate wooden carvings. Famous and renowned Turnovite woodcarvers came from the Skalisti and Taliadorou families. Wonderful iconostasis, works of Turnovites, can be found today in many important churches, such as St. Charalambos of Preveza, the Metropolitan Church of St. Athanasius of Ioannina, the Metropolis of Sopiki B. Epirus and in many villages of Pogoni, Argyrokastro, Agioi Saranta, Himarra and Premeti.
There is a small café in the village. Opposite the village there are two small chapels of Agios Ioannis and Holy Apostles. The annual village festival takes place on August 15th.

Aetomilitsa 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
The life of the inhabitants of Aetomilitsa, as in many villages of Pindos, is intertwined with semi-nomadic animal husbandry. For centuries now, the village has been abandoned in winter by almost all its inhabitants, while in summer it is full of life.
Every year, at the beginning of June, the farmers and their flocks of several thousand sheep scatter over the vast pastures of the village on the central Gramos. In early autumn, the torrents follow the reverse course of the porrs in the valleys of Thessaly and Macedonia.
Denisko, an old head village, flourished in the 18th, 19th and early 20th centuries. It was economically self-sufficient at that time as it had 40,000 sheep and the village's conductors and traders reached as far as Vlora in Albania and Nigrita in Serres.
During the Greek-Italian war and the civil war, the area suffered great destruction and its inhabitants were dispersed in many countries, mainly in Eastern Europe and in several cities of our country.
Today the village maintains its nomadic pastoral life and at the same time it is a special place of holiday especially for its many expatriate inhabitants. It is worth trying the fine cheeses produced in Denisko, such as manouri - locally called "urda" - and the pure delicious meats.
Aetomilitsa is the starting point for hiking routes to the surrounding beautiful amazing peaks of Gramos, making the area a hiker's and climber's paradise.
In the village there is a newly built mountaineering shelter, with a capacity of 20 people, which operates all year round and offers fine food. There are also rooms to let, two taverns with traditional grilled food and cafes. On the fifteenth of August, when the church of Panagia celebrates, there is a big festival and the meeting of all the Aetomilitsitsa people takes place, in which many visitors participate.
*Source: the official site of the Municipality ofKonitsa.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Armata 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is said that the subsoil of the area is rich in deposits of copper and other ores. It is believed that Armata owes its name to the occupation of its inhabitants in the old days, with the manufacture of armaments. The village was completely destroyed by the Turks in the 17th century and many of its inhabitants headed for Trieste, while during the Second World War many of the village's inhabitants left for Trieste. During the Second World War it was burnt down by the Nazis.
Many streams and torrents originate from the surrounding slopes of the Armas and flow into the Aoos. The main ones are the Aspropotamos, Katrania, Potami, Asbestaria, Valia Siaca, Scraka and Gabriel. On the small plateau called "Varkos", located at 1600 meters, two small transient beautiful ponds are formed. Armata are surrounded by the peaks: Seven Fountains, Pantiafento, Smilianos, Tsiouma, Kyrguri, Kappa Turco, Dzilurousiou, Kiatra Beti and Panagia with an altitude ranging from 2,000 to 2,500 meters and which are covered with forests of black pine, beech and robolus.
In the centre of the settlement, next to the stone-built school, is the church of Agios Nikolaos, built after the passage of Agios Kosmas of Aetolo at the end of the 18th century and painted by Samaritan hagiographers. At the entrance of the village, on an old oak tree, the cross placed there by the Saint is preserved. The churches of Agios Dimitrios and the Church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, which were destroyed by the German troops in 1943, were rebuilt in the 1970s. The church of Agia Paraskevi was built in 1972 on the site of a former monastery, which was destroyed by fire in 1964.
In Armata you will be impressed by the only working water mill in the area, which has been reconstructed in the old traditional way with wooden spools in place of an older water mill, as well as the old stone watermill located a little further down.
On August 15, a traditional festival with folk music, dances, local delicacies and wine is held in the central square. The music of the area is dominated by the Macedonian-originated gaida and the Pindos beratia. In the village there is a small café that occasionally offers food and rooms to let.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026 - August 17, 2026
Pades 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
The name of the village probably comes from the Vlach word "Pante", which means "siaadi", "flat place". The first inhabitants of Padi are believed to have come from the area of Gyftokampos in Zagori and at first settled in the area around the present village, in the locations 'Kiatra Drigalou' and 'Kranies'.
The first written evidence, which refers to the village of Pades, is found in the codex of the Holy Monastery of St. Nicanoros Zamborda in Macedonia. There and dated 1692, the village of Pades is mentioned among other villages of the bishop of the province of Velas. From the 15th and 16th century icons in the central church, which was built in 1784, as well as those in the chapels, we conclude that the history of the village is lost deeper in time. It is believed that the village of Vogopetra in Kozani was founded by Padiotes in the middle of the 17th century.
The inhabitants in the past, apart from being farmers and breeders, were loggers, conductors, merchants and shamars. Many travelled and worked in distant places (Russia, Romania, Constantinople, Drama and Kavala), where they acquired considerable fortunes. Today the few inhabitants of the village are mostly retired. The village comes alive again in the summer months, when expatriates from distant places arrive.
Remarkable is the church of the Dormition of the Virgin Mary, a basilica built in 1784 with hagiographies from 1823 and a small bell tower that stands on the century-old plane tree in the churchyard. Other sights of the village are Agios Nikolaos (17th century), at the entrance of the village, Panagia in the lower mahala with icons of the 16th and 17th century, the Holy Apostles (1895), Agios Dimitrios, the old chapel of Prophet Elias, where the festival of the same name used to take place on 20 July, the Holy Apostles (1895) next to the public road, and the old watermills on the Mylopotamos. The Folklore Museum of Pades is also of interest, where objects of popular culture and remarkable photographic material are exhibited.
Pades is celebrated on 15 August, when a three-day traditional feast is held. A special celebration takes place every Carnival with the burning of the 'Poiarkas' and the cooking of the bean soup. There are two three guesthouses where you can stay overnight and taverns to enjoy traditional food.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
August 15, 2026
Oxia 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Most of the men of the village, as in the other masonry villages, practiced the profession of stone craftsman and travelled wherever they could find work. Masons from Seltsi, which is the old name of the village, for example, are found working in Khartoum, Sudan. Important work in the village is done by the Association of the Brotherhood of Oxyas Epirus, founded in 1907.
The village was created by residents who came from the surrounding dispersed villages and especially from the now ruined settlement of Pistiliapi. Of interest is the church of Agios Nikolaos (1857), with its ornate iconostasis and remarkable hagiographies, and the picturesque square with the coffee shop, housed in the old stone-built school (1871).
From the hill with the chapel of Agia Triada, located at an altitude of 1010m, you can admire the wonderful view of the Sarantaporos valley. Equally beautiful views can be enjoyed from the chapel of Profitis Ilias, located on a hill above the village. The village festival takes place on the 20th of July, on the day of Prophet Elias, with a feast that lasts until the morning.

Pirgos 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
Construction work is the main occupation of the few inhabitants. The village's churches, such as the central church of St. George, St. Paraskevi and Panagia, are special.
Interesting is the photo exhibition hosted at the school with subjects from the wider area in the past. The old stone mansions, nice squares with fountains and dilapidated houses remind of the good old days and the wealth of the village.
In the past, many inhabitants of Stratsiani - the old name of the village - were immigrants to distant places, such as Congo in Africa and created large fortunes. Some of them even benefited their hometown in various ways. During the civil war, the hills north of the settlement became the scene of fierce fighting. A big festival is held on August 15th in the village square. On 26 October a Tsipouro Festival is held.

Molista 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
Αccording to tradition, an epidemic of smallpox decimated the inhabitants and those who remained moved to the settlements of Messaria, Gannadio and Monastiri. Although the exact date of the settlement's establishment is not historically documented, some argue that the area was first inhabited in the late 17th century. Notable is the church of Agios Nikolaos, in the center of the village, built in 1864, with the personal labor of the residents. It has an ornate iconostasis, the work of tallymen from Metsovo, while the tall bell tower near the oak tree and the beautiful loggia of the church complete the beautiful image of the square. Beautiful chapels are built in picturesque locations. Most of the inhabitants of Molista were farmers, cattle breeders and mostly craftsmen (stone masons, stone masons, clay masons, plasterers or carpenters). Also many men of the village were merchants in Bucharest and Cairo and it is said, in a humorous way, that they "carried the pounds in sacks to their village". The houses of Molista have a fortress character with mansions that rival each other in beauty, but also simple houses in many of which the roofs are united. The simplest type of house is rectangular. It consisted of two floors, the lower floor (for animals, cellar and bimcha) and the upper floor (beds, oda, manchato, corner). Two mills used to operate in the village. In Molista there are cool springs with crystal clear water. The richest and most picturesque is the fountain of Agios Nikolaos, located at the edge of the church precinct under the oak trees. From the top of the smooth hill "Tziadora", on the road to Gannadio you can admire Molista, the valley of Sarantaporos, the ridges of the Gramos and the densely forested Kleftis. In the village square, on the first Saturday after August 15, the famous celebrations are revived with traditional dances and songs. In the past, it was customary for two or three times a year for the village girls to offer voluntary work on the village's cotton fields. The day ended with a feast in the village square. Another interesting event in Molista was the custom of saving oil for the needs of the church on the day of Epiphany with the auction of the cross and the icon. The feasts in Molista can be divided into three categories: the 'Esperides' (the host provided the appetizers and wine), the 'Ziafetia' (held in the open air) and the municipal dances with the participation of all the villagers.

Traditional Festival-The Assumption of the Virgin Mary.

Paleoselli 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is characterized by the many waters, the high altitude, the dense vegetation and the beautiful view to the opposite peaks of Tymfi. It is very likely that in the current location of Palioselli was one of the ancient settlements believed to have existed in the Aoos pit during the Roman era. Particular features of Palioselli and the other villages that one encounters along the route of the Aoos pit from here onwards are the Vlach dialect and the specialisation of the inhabitants in professions directly related to forest exploitation (loggers, sawyers, etc.). Also, apart from their occupation with farming, some men of the village were conductors and millers, while many of them travelled to work in various parts of today's Greece, in Constantinople and in today's Romania.
The village, like all the villages of Lakka Aoos, was at the centre of important battles both during the 1940s and during the occupation, where it was eventually burnt down by the German army. Only the church of Agia Paraskevi remained untouched, which has gradually taken a spectacular slope to the left from subsidence and has remained solidly in place ever since. It is a three-aisled timber-roofed basilica, with a narthex and propylon at the south entrance. The interior of the church, built in 1864, is decorated with 19th century frescoes with a beautiful iconostasis, remarkable snowy paintings and a wood-carved ceiling of 1871. Worthy of attention in the village is the paved square with the over-aged plane tree and the ornate fountain on its side, the primary school building and the few stone houses. In Palioselli there is a suitable infrastructure for overnight accommodation and food. The annual festival takes place on 15 August, as in most villages of the Aoos pit.
