Distrato 440 19, Greece
A few words about the place :
In the lower part of the village, graves of Byzantine and Roman or earlier times were found. It is assumed that there was an ancient settlement at the site of the village. The main occupations that the inhabitants were engaged in from the past were logging, karmanas (production of pottery), charcoal making, animal husbandry and pottery. The inhabitants of Distratos are famous for their skill in logging. With simple means and before the discovery of oil and electricity, they built water mills in suitable places and exploited the power of water to produce useful timber. The potters made pottery by heating the torch in a special way, which was formerly used as a healing agent for animal wounds and so on. In Distrato there is a Primary School, a Tapestry School, a community library, a water mill, a water mill, mandanias and a snow removal station.
The central church, dedicated to the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, is the jewel of the village and the centre of the three-day festival on 15 August. It is of the basilica type and was built in 1909 by the master builder Alexis Marcheki from Pyrsogianni. The church is adorned with an elaborate iconostasis and icons of Chioniadian painters, painted on canvas.
The chapel of Prophet Elias is located to the north of Distratos on a hilltop, in a prominent position. On the north side of the church is the date 1814, although according to testimonies the church existed before that. The chapel is open every year on 20 July, when a festival with traditional music and dancing takes place.
Distrato has a suitable infrastructure for sleeping with remarkable guesthouses and rooms to let, and eating with several taverns and cafes. There are also woodcarving workshops, waxworks and trout farms.

Lagkada 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
The village, formerly called Blistiani, is built at an altitude of 900 m, on the western slopes of a large valley formed to the north of the mountains Tabouri (alt. 1876 m) and Gyftissa (alt. 1750 m).
Lagada is home to famous stone masons. Some of the famous mansions of the town of Siatista, for example, bear inscriptions with the names of masters and masters from this small village: "If you ask, Lords, which master built it, Nakos the name from the country of Blistiani, Villaetti Konitsa, 1740". Also, an inscription preserved in the village of Gorgogiri Trikala informs us that Blizdianite masons built the village church in 1857. In the mid-19th century a large part of the village's inhabitants, consisting mainly of families of masons, settled permanently in the village of Drakotrypa in Thessaly.
Today, only a few stone houses remain to remind of the old times. The few inhabitants of the village are mostly engaged in animal husbandry, logging and wood processing - there are two sawmills in the village - and some continue to practice the profession of a builder. In the village, the church of Panagia and the old school stand out, as well as the chapel of Agia Paraskevi, with excellent examples of frescoes by Chioniadian painters. Beautiful locations around the village are the springs Glykoneri and Elatia and the plateau "livadia" located east of the village at an altitude of 1412 meters.

Asimochori 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Higher up, towards the top of Gammos Var Tzioban (1623m) and Golio (1919m) are beautiful forests of beech, black locust and fir trees.
Asimochori is the home of fine skilled carpenters, who worked in various parts of the Balkans, Khartoum and America, such as the famous George Christou, who practiced his art in Leskoviki, Filiates, Premeti, Thessaloniki and Monastiri (Bitolia). Asimochori was once known for its silversmiths.
Many of the village's craftsmen prospered abroad but never forgot their village and organized themselves into associations, such as the Progressive Association "Agia Paraskevi" of America, founded in 1915, and they benefited their hometown in many ways.
During the Civil War, deadly battles were fought around the village and many houses were destroyed, which were rebuilt in the 1950s.
In the small square in the centre of the village, the old two-storey school, dating back to 1907, stands out, as well as the small traditional café opposite.
The church of Panagia (1877) is noteworthy, built on the site of an older church (1823) and has an ornate iconostasis, the work of Tournovite tabernacles. The church of Agios Dimitrios is also interesting. There is a picturesque little café in the village.

Oxia 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Most of the men of the village, as in the other masonry villages, practiced the profession of stone craftsman and travelled wherever they could find work. Masons from Seltsi, which is the old name of the village, for example, are found working in Khartoum, Sudan. Important work in the village is done by the Association of the Brotherhood of Oxyas Epirus, founded in 1907.
The village was created by residents who came from the surrounding dispersed villages and especially from the now ruined settlement of Pistiliapi. Of interest is the church of Agios Nikolaos (1857), with its ornate iconostasis and remarkable hagiographies, and the picturesque square with the coffee shop, housed in the old stone-built school (1871).
From the hill with the chapel of Agia Triada, located at an altitude of 1010m, you can admire the wonderful view of the Sarantaporos valley. Equally beautiful views can be enjoyed from the chapel of Profitis Ilias, located on a hill above the village. The village festival takes place on the 20th of July, on the day of Prophet Elias, with a feast that lasts until the morning.
*Source: the official site of the Municipality ofKonitsa.

Vourmpiani 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
Apart from their love for the arts, they also excelled in writing. In 1875, the first nucleus of the Filelekpaediktiki Adelheidia was founded in Vourbiani, a school that was to become a model school for the entire province of Konitsa.
Today the visitor should see the stone-built two-storey historic School of Vourbiani, the spiritual beacon of the region since the middle of the 19th century, which in more recent years and until 1986 functioned as a primary school, secondary school and boarding school, the Holy Church of Panagia with the wooden temple of the 16th century (built by Gorgopotamites woodcarvers), but also the other churches of the village.
A stop at the central square with the plane tree is essential, which is a meeting point for the Vourbianites and visitors, as here are the two traditional cafes and the guesthouse of the village.
Events are held on 20 July, the Feast of the Prophet Elijah, on 15 August, the Feast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, while on 24 October the "Tsipouro Festival" is organised.
*Source: the official site of the Municipality ofKonitsa.

Chionades 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
The permanent residents are few, mainly retired people. Walking around the village you will find several well-built old stone houses with strong elements of local architecture. In the picturesque square of the village, with a nice view of the valley of Gorgopotamos and the surrounding slopes of Gramos, there is the church of Agios Athanasios (1866), which hosts interesting portable icons of all periods of snow painting. The stone-built school (1905), which houses a café, is interesting and is open only during the summer months and holiday periods. At the top of the square, next to the stone fountain, there is a large stone building (1911), which will soon house the Museum of Chioniadian Painters.
Higher than the village, at an altitude of 1550m, is the Prophet Elias with a magnificent view of the whole area and above it the Bantra Pass, which for centuries was one of the main communication routes between the Greek villages of the Gramos and those in Albania. It was from here that the Italians first invaded Greece on the first night of the Greek-Italian war in 1940.
Chioniades are known, more than anything else, for their famous painters, who, starting from their village, travelled to many parts of the Balkans and created a variety of elaborate ecclesiastical and folk paintings. It is remarkable that the men of the village were highly specialised in this particular art. In total, there are reported to be at least 65 folk painters from Chioniades; the period of their most intense activity is the 18th and 19th centuries. Their important works nowadays adorn temples and old mansions in the surrounding area (Konitsa, Zagori) and even further afield. They were among the few artists who at that time were engaged in church painting, hagiography (portable icons, iconostasis icons, frescoes) and popular - secular painting at the same time. In Chioniades, on 20 July, a traditional festival is held with local instrumentalists.

Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
July 26, 2026 - July 27, 2026
Agia Paraskevi, Konitsa 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
Although in 1953 it was renamed Agia Paraskevi, the locals prefer the old name Kerasovo. It is a beautiful village with picturesque houses, many streams, extensive coniferous and beech forests and alpine meadows in Smolika. Kerasovo was at the centre of the war during the early days of the Italian invasion. Most of its inhabitants used to be engaged in masonry and transport (kyratzides - conductors). Kerasovite stone-masons worked in various parts of Greece and outside of it. Today, the inhabitants of the village are engaged in logging and animal husbandry. Cattle, goats and sheep are reared on the slopes of Smolika and Tabouriou. Interesting are the many churches of the village, such as the central church of the Assumption of Theotokos (1812), St. Nicholas (1850), St. Paraskevi (1850), St. Dimitrios (1926), St. Athanasios, St. Barbara, Pr. Elias, St. Trinity, etc. The old mills and fountains of the village, as well as the building of the old primary school are worthy of attention. In the centre of the village there is a large building that belongs to the Brotherhood of Agia Paraskevi. In general, the urban form of the village is monocentric, with the centre in the middle, which includes the middle village, the two uneven squares and the 12 mahalades, which face various powerful factories (soybeans), such as Tsoubanai, Papagiannai, Vailades, etc. The musical tradition of the village is unique. Even today, famous musicians (Filippideoi and Betzaioi) entertain people at the traditional festivals of the wider area. In recent years, in August, a Polyphonic Song Festival is organized under the supervision of Xanthoula Dakovanou, professor of music therapy at the Denis Diderot-Paris University7, and the orchestra of Nikos Filippidis. Also characteristic is the custom of making a "bontza" (a clay pan for baking bread or pies) by women during the summer months. In Kerasovo there is a suitable infrastructure for overnight stays but also for enjoying good food (roasted lambs and kokoretsi) in the traditional taverns of the village. From Kerasovo starts the mountaineering trail to Drakolimni and the big peak of Smolika.at 2637m, but also other smaller trails in the forests around the village.

Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
July 26, 2026
Kastania 440 15, Greece
A few words about the place :
The rare architectural elements that are preserved in Kastaniani, samples of the writing of great stone masons, reveal the quality of the craftsmen who lived in this place and only for this reason the settlement should have been classified as a protected traditional settlement.
Several villagers in the past evolved from simple stone craftsmen to contractors and undertook the execution of public works, such as the construction of the Mesoge bridge on the Aoos River, the bridge of Arinisti - Kakavia, the bridge of Zuzouli, the Stomio Monastery, the building of the clock of the central square of Ioannina and the facade of the Zosimaia School of Ioannina.
All the houses of the village are stone-built two-storey houses with a courtyard and low stone terraces at the front door. Inside, in many rooms there are fireplaces, the most important of which is the reception room which is usually decorated with beautiful reliefs.
The village, according to an inscribed plaque, located in the church of Panagia in the district of Galina,. is believed to have been built in its present location around 1018. It is believed to be the homeland of Ali Pasha's secretary, Kostas Gramatikos.
Characteristic of the village are its many waters and fountains, seventeen churches and chapels, as well as its bridges. The four single-arched stone bridges: of Galina (1936), of Rachi (1895), of Mitsaia (1845), and of Malnitsa (1934), located outside the settlement, are considered the jewels of the village.
It is worth visiting Agios Nikolaos (1926) with its carved wooden iconostasis made by the Turnovite Charalambos Skalisti, Agios Dimitrios (1670), which is one of the oldest churches, the two-storey primary school (1894), the mansion of Gasios, the chapel of the Holy Apostles at the highest point of the village and the watermill of Aethanasi.
Kastaniani is home to around 20 people in winter and 350 in summer, who are mainly engaged in the village gardens and livestock farming.
*Source: the official site of the Municipality of Konitsa.

Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
Traditional Festival-Celebration of Agia Paraskevi
July 26, 2026 - July 27, 2026
Pigi 441 00, Greece
A few words about the place :
It is believed that the village was first inhabited in the 13th or 14th century and that its original name was "Empekler", while its current name was given in the 1950s because of the many springs and streams that flow abundantly through the village.
It is divided into 4 mahalas, the Upper Mahalas, the Lower Mahalas, the Manzaians and the Spanaeans. The few inhabitants of the village are engaged in logging and masonry, in which they used to have a long tradition. The church of Agios Georgios (1819), which is adorned with magnificent hagiographies and an elaborate iconostasis depicting floral motifs of unparalleled beauty, painted by Chioniadian painters, is particularly noteworthy. Of interest are the churches of Agios Panteleimon with the ancient plane tree in Pano Machalas, Agia Paraskevi and Agios Nikolaos, the many fountains and the stone-built school.
The jewel of the village is the single-arch stone bridge "Karagianni" with the icon next to it, built in 1903 with the expenses of the benefactor Georgios Karagianni. On the 2nd day of Easter, the "Antamoma" is held in the village square. The village festival is held on 26 & 27 July of Agia Paraskevi.
*Source: the official site of the Municipality ofKonitsa.
