Workshop

During all year

Duration: 6 hours

50€ per person

From farm to loom

At this hands on workshop, visitors will experience all the circle that wool makes in order to be ready to use in weaving. They will see how from a sheep a yarn is created.First step is meeting the sheep!!Observing their fleeces and learning some local tips that are given from older generations. Time for sheering a sheep and sorting its wool. The sheering will be done by the live stock breeder and students can slso give it a try! Then it is washing time.First we will make fire and warm up the water in the kettle. Then we wash the fleece and rinse it with a lot of clean water. After hanging the wool to dry we continue working with allready clean and dry wool that is prepared before, because it takes two days to dry… Next step is to pick the wool so the fibers open up and are ready to get carded.During the procedure students will see the old equipment and the new developed ones . The carding machine combs the fibers and makes our material ready to spin or to felt with it.Felting is the most ancient technique of manufacturing textile, it requires only the wool ,your hands and water!! For spinning we need a spinning wheel or a spindle. For every sort of yarn there are different ways of spinning.Visitors will be able to experiment . When the thread is ready we can go to the loom and start weaving!!
