From spring to fall, a wealth of native mushrooms fruit in the evergreen forests of Epirus. Join us in an off-trail experience to the best foraging spots and discover the fascinating world of Wild Mushrooms. Learn how to photograph, identify and safely collect edible species while enjoying the beauty and sounds of the forest. We may return with delicious mushrooms, but the main goal of this experience are to introduce you to the fascinating world of mushrooms, and provide you with a foundation for safe mushroom foraging.
During our hike we will also forage wild fruits and herbs, discover some of the secret sights of the area and talk about living in a sustainable way, both in the mountains and the city.

The trails are safe and easy to access for everyone, the surrounding nature is spectacular and the only thing you need to bring along is your good mood!

We will meet in the city of Ioannina and drive to the forest and back, 30-60 minutes ride. During our hike we will taste some local products and enjoy together a cup of tea made from locally foraged herbs.

Meet your host, Vasilis

I have been foraging, photographing and documenting wild mushrooms, truffles, fruits and herbs of Epirus systematically since 2010. As an educator, member of “The High Mountains” Social Cooperative Enterprise and a founding member of Mycological Society of Greece I have hosted numerous presentations on wild mushrooms and truffles in communities, schools and visitors of the area. Foraging is an integral part of mountain life but also a first-class opportunity for an excursion into nature, which offers relaxation, peace of mind as well as excellent products to our table.
